For most of the year Hall was the number one ranked player in the up coming 2010 draft. When the final rankings came out Seguin took
over the number 1 spot. The Oilers haven't had a true first line center
since Doug Weight departed. In my opinion, with the first pick this summer the Oilers should take Tyler Seguin. I know what some of you might think, Hall is clearly the better player.
He may be better at this stage of his career but I believe Seguin will be the better player in the future. Seguin finished with 106 points on a team that had less talent compared to Hall's Windsor Spitfires. The Boston Bruins will definitely have an easy decision come draft day with the second pick. The decision may be complex but it is easy to see that both players have the ablility to dominate the NHL .
He finished with 106 points and tied for the league lead. Known more for his playmaking ability, this young man scored 48 goals on a team that Tyler Seguin is the only name you will recognize. He has the ability to make every teammate on the ice look like NHL prospects of the future. Seguin plays a complete game in all three zones and showed the ability to produce all season. For a player who didn't play at the world junior tournament he's definitely made a name for himself and showed great leadership as an 18 year old. At eighteen Seguin is already being compared to Steve Yzerman.
Edmonton Oilers future looks bright with returning young talents like Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano and Dustin Penner. Also future stars like Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paarvarvi Svensson and Ryan Potulny who just completed his rookie campaign with 15 goals. This season has been full of disappointments and heartbreak. The Oliers faithful fans have been waiting for the wells to open and finally see some youth and enthusiasm being pumped into the City of Champions. Tyler Seguin is a natural centre with size and loads of talent. For
the past two years he played for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL.
The debate over the first pick in the NHL Draft will continue into the summer. The Edmonton Oilers have secured the first overall pick in the draft. The 2009-2010 season was one of the worst in team history but the future only looks brighter moving forward. In recent drafts the Tampa bay Lightning selected Steven Stampkos and the New York Islanders took John Tavares. These decisions did not cause either team much stress. The good news is, the Oilers will have two great young players to choose from that could one day be the face of Edmonton Oilers Hockey.
Hall or Seguin: Which young superstar can lift the Oilers from obscurity?
Taylor Hall is a kid we've all seen excel at the world junior tournament. He would bring spectacular skill to any team that takes him on draft day. Hall played on a much better team with the Windsor Spitfires. He finished the season with 40 goals and 106 points tying with Seguin. Hall is known more for his scoring touch and speed, also one of the players most ready to play next year at the NHL level. You can watch him in the playoffs right now dominating, in 18 playoff games so far he has 15 goals and 17 assists.
