Mark McGwire is one of the greatest home run hitters to cross home plate, but his legacy will always be tied to steroids. Watching him celebrate with Sammy Sosa after he broke the home run record is a day we all remember. As a sports fan it was one of those special days that you hope you will never forget. We did not know both players may have taken steroids. We didn't see the game in that light. We saw two great players celebrate a historic moment. Baseball is America's favorite pastime and celebrated in every park and community throughout the United States.
Last week the baseball world was stunned to hear that the most prolific home run hitter of today has been taking steroids. With his eyes looking down at a blank piece of paper Mark McGwire finally spoke to the media. He didn't make excuses but took all the blame for his actions. He Apologized to his teammates and the fans. It is a sad day for baseball and a day we will never forget. Baseball may never be the same. Just imagine.
It can transform a field into grace and beauty in its purist form. The thrill of competition is what makes sports fun to watch. It is competition that makes it the best reality show on television. We know it is real and only the best can win. But sometimes in life what we think is reality can be masked with deception. In sports cheating is considered a sin. Both players should have taken confession before they tarnished the most important record in all of sports.
Just imagine for a moment, we are in Florida and it's the first day of spring training. The grass is freshly cut and the smell of summer floats in the air. The only thing greener than the grass is the envy we all share for these athletes. We are all anxiously awaiting a press conference that could change baseball forever.
Mark McGwire comes clean before he becomes the Home Run King?
