It's game 1 of the World Series folks, can you believe the excitement. Two teams that nobody expected to make this stage have turned their seasons around and made believers out of all of us. With a sub par finish to the regular season these teams have proven that the new structure works and baseball records can be broken. Any team can get hot late, but to see both of these franchises in the World Series is unbelievable. It should be a great matchup and both cities are preparing to celebrate greatness. Just imagine.
The jubilation on his face was only matched by the screams from a young baseball fan. This is an experience that I will cherish all of my life. For some players and fans this joy will never be part of their history. If the game is about the fans then I think baseball should let many more fans experience the thrill of victory. Give the players an opportunity to play and baseball fans an opportunity to watch. If you disagree with this idea, imagine for a moment the NBA playoffs had just 4 teams or the NFL had just a Superbowl. How many memories would be lost, and stories never told. Great players become legends in the post season. How many legends would have been lost with this format. How many cities could call themselves champions?
I have always imagined a world where baseball fans could cheer on their favorite teams well into the football season. For so many of us seeing our favorite baseball team in a playoff game will never happen. If you are lucky then it may be once in 10 years. Unless you are one of the top teams in baseball you will never taste the satisfaction of stepping on the field in October. I know baseball has history like no other sport, but it is this history that has made this reality seem impossible. As a young Blue Jays fan I can remember the 1993 World Series when Joe Carter hit the series winning home run.
Just imagine for a moment baseball fans, it's October and the playoffs are in full swing. With 16 teams fighting to become World Series Champions all bets are off on who will reign supreme. A baseball roster is only as good as the men that step onto the field come October.
